Like many millions of folks, I don’t really know what to say
any more about this election and Donald Trump. I have been paying attention to elections (and
voting) since the 1952 Eisenhower-Stevenson campaign. I was an incoming
freshman at Stanford University, and had til then been a mere onlooker to US
elections, but one who paid attention nonetheless. In those days, it was hard
not to pay attention. We had that War
thing, with President Roosevelt leading the nation politically, and Eisenhower—Ike—leading
our military assaults on the Hitler war machine. We did listen to Roosevelt’s “chats” on the
radio. We did pay attention to war, since not long after we managed to end
those dreadful conflicts across the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, another war began
. . . this time in the Korea’s. The Cold War began seemingly at the same time
as the hot one ended. North Korea was on the other side of the world, but
supported by the Chinese Communist regime, and, indirectly by Russia. Apparently, we humans can’t get enough of War.
We love it, all that shooting and killing, all that stuff that goes boom in the
night. Yeah, I still remember chatting
it up with my buddies, all of us turning 18 and awaiting our Selective Service
notices. So, yes, we paid attention.
We even managed to pay attention and to vote when we landed
in New Delhi, India in 1964. Remember Johnson and Goldwater??? How could we not
vote???
We remember vividly the first presidential debates—Nixon-Kennedy.
And although Nixon was a despicable tyrant-potential, he at least seemed
knowledgeable. But now . . . wow, how America has sunk. It seems all the idiots have come out of
their respective “deplorable closets” to press for the election of a true Malenfant-Terrible—yes,
he gives the term enfant-terrible an entirely new meaning.
The Donald has been defined as narcissistic, a true
sociopath, and, from simple observation, he is clearly adult ADHD. He
apparently can neither read nor write, so he uses others to do those chores for
him—see The Art of the Deal.
So, according to the Mayo Clinic, “narcissistic personality disorder is a
mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance,
a deep need for admiration and a lack of empathy for others. But behind this
mask of ultra-confidence lies a fragile self-esteem that's vulnerable to the
slightest criticism.” Hmmm . . . seem familiar?
And antisocial personality disorder, sometimes called sociopathy, is a mental
condition in which a person consistently shows no regard for right and wrong
and ignores the rights and feelings of others. People with antisocial
personality disorder tend to antagonize, manipulate or treat others harshly or
with callous indifference. They show no guilt or remorse for their behavior.
Sounds like The Donald to me.
And
then there’s the ADHD. Adult attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is
a mental health disorder that includes a combination of persistent problems,
such as difficulty paying attention, hyperactivity and impulsive behavior.
Adult ADHD can lead to unstable relationships, poor work or school performance,
low self-esteem, and other problems. Now who could that describe?
We
can no longer watch any more “debates”, since they are both maddening and
depressing at the same time. The depressing part is what happens to me when I
consider what all this says about America and the American people. What
troubles me the most I think, Is what outrages people, especially those
supposedly consequential folks who “run” our country. Donald is known to have
cheated hundreds perhaps thousands of people—think Trump University, a clear
fraud—and the many workers who did work for him and who he refused to pay. Nothing, no outrage.
Then
think of his boast—“I could walk out onto Fifth Avenue, shoot someone and my
poll numbers would go up”. Think also of
his threats about Hillary. He says publically that the election would be rigged
if he loses and that people will have no recourse, except, you know the “Second
Amendment people”—meaning that his followers perhaps could arrange to
assassinate the next President, should he lose. Did that spur outrage?? Hmmm, No.
He
also, in his last debate, promised to jail Hillary once he is elected. Who does
that, aside from people like Putin or perhaps Kim Jung Un—it is a classic
dictator move—once you acquire power, you jail the opposition.
And
lest we forget his records as businessman and as a husband, he has declared bankruptcy four times—he couldn’t
make money operating a gambling casino for God’s sake—and he declared moral
bankruptcy several times in marriage, now on his third and counting, due to his
serial infidelities. Hey, right wing
Christians, you know you guys of the “marriage is a sacred thing with ONE MAN
and ONE WOMAN”, you’re supporting this cretin? So, you really have no actual principles
at all?
And
now, suddenly, after release of the Trump sex tapes where he confesses to
abusing women routinely, cuz he’s a star don’t you know, now, idiots like Paul
Ryan and John McCain have come out and asserted they will no longer support
him. Wow, really guys? That’s what it took? You were otherwise ok with him as
the titular head of your crap political party? You are a horrible joke, all of
you.
And
I cannot wait for this travesty of an election to be over. And for you “second
amendment” crowd, you know, the paranoid, anti-American idiots with too many
guns, if you want to start a gunfight at the OK Corral, because your cretinous
leader loses, remember that we have the United States Army on our side. And I
cannot wait to see you try to intimidate them. They don’t take to intimidation.
So,
just go vote, everyone. It will soon be over, and The Donald can crawl into his
spiderhole and join his ratpack Cheney, Rudy, et al. Maybe then life can resume in America.
